KOWLOON KICKASS - MC YAN solo exhibition

We’re proud to present renowned hip-hop and graffiti artist Syan, ‘MC Yan’, at Seefood Room, featuring a reworked series of ‘the Kowloon Emperor’, Tsang Tsou-choi’s graffiti pieces.

Curated by Professor Kevin Tsui, the exhibition, Kowloon Kickass, sees Yan pay homage to the late artist’s eccentricity. Yan cleverly added his own twist on Tsang’s street graffiti that the people of Hong Kong have seen and adored. Through diverse mediums ranging from LEGO bricks to acrylic paint on canvas, this series explores not only Tsang’s works, but also identity politics and his sentiments for Hong Kong as his hometown.

The exhibition will be open until 26 June at the Haus of Contemporary, 9 On Lan Street in Central. In addition to the exhibited works, Yan will occasionally visit us in-person to add to his live graffiti piece at our gallery space on 3/F.
